As some of you may know, ActionsTalk has been evolving. Two months ago, we set out to create a conference in the Milwaukee area that brought together three key pieces of successful tech companies: 1. Tech saavy developers/engineers, 2. business minded entrepreneurs, and 3. venture capital. Ryan and I saw the potential for the idea when we realized that such a conference didn’t exist in Milwaukee, even with the obvious potential of the community. So what did we do? We outlined a plan (loosely) and took action. We called our first ActionsTalk meeting at Alterra and it felt like the idea really had legs. Since then we’ve spoken before three local organizations (thank you!), picking up supports as we moved forward. As we began to speak to people, to hear what they wanted, it became obvious that this would be no small under-taking.

After some serious deliberation, we finally came to the conclusion that the time might not be right for us to organize such a conference. We revisted our goals. We want to seek out, promote, and educate local startups and future entrepreneurs. We want to meet the best and brightest this city (and the Midwest) has to offer. We’ve come up with a new plan…

We believe we can make a more immediate impact, and reach our collective goals by making ActionsTalk a site dedicated to highlighting the successes and struggles of the local entrepreneur. We’re both obviously very interested in technology, but we aren’t limiting our scope there. No startup is off limits. By meeting the people and telling these stories, we will bring the community together. We see this as a venue for you to check out what’s new, who’s making moves, and to learn the tricks of the trade.

A Call to Action!
* If you’re involved with a startup in Milwaukee (or know someone who is), send us your story. If we think it makes sense, we’ll interview you, do a write-up, and bring new attention to your business.
* If you can write decently, and you’ve got a passion for this, like we do, let us know. We’re looking for a few more contributors to energize this movement. As a contributor, you can cover the local businesses or write relevant education pieces for our readers.

We’re excited for the new direction, and we’ll be publishing our first batch of content soon - with a site design that reflects the change… stay tuned.

Peter Berner of Career Moments weekly thought (well worth sharing to the ActionsTalk community):

Everyone who has ever been to a motivation rally has heard the mantra that if you want to change you must declare the change as if it has already occurred. Want a better job? Declare that it will be so! Want to change careers? Set a date, and declare that it will happen! Want a raise? Imagine spending the money and just affirm that it will be so! Guess what? It doesn’t work. For most of us the impact of declaring a self-change is, at best, temporary. Whatever change does occur diminishes within a few weeks, naturally followed by disappointment and a poorer self-image. Career success and achievement does not come from motivational gimmicks and self-declarations. It happens through a steady, thoughtful process of determining what you are called to do and taking the necessary steps- every day- to do it.

ActionsTalk as you already may now is going to become a web/entrepreneurship conference and community in the Milwaukee area. The area has incredible technical skills which provides the potential of some great companies and innovations coming out of the area. The missing ingredient here is the collaboration that needs to take place in order for everyone to congregate and produce. ActionsTalk is going to create and provide an environment that will promote this sort of collaboration. The first ActionsTalk meet-up will be held at Alterra Coffee shop on the lake(link & map below). The event will be Thursday May 15 from 7-8:30p. Please feel free to join if you are interested in the topics of web, entrepreneurship, or almost anything start-up! We would love to have you. As this is the very first meeting it will be very simple - come, buy your own coffee, and chat…

Lets get this community spinning so that we can begin to collaborate and produce great things. We can sit around and chat forever…but Actions Talk.

Many people concluded that the web was overhyped, when in fact bubbles and consequent shakeouts appear to be a common feature of all technological revolutions. Shakeouts typically mark the point at which an ascendant technology is ready to take its place at center stage. The pretenders are given the bum’s rush, the real success stories show their strength, and there begins to be an understanding of what separates one from the other. ~Tim O’Reilly
